A kind of magic happens when mini-lights and plastic cups get made into a sparkleball. Photographs rarely do them justice. And it’s hard to put into words how amazing they look or the effect they have on people. I bought my first sparkleball outside Tyler, Texas from a man selling them on the side of the road. They looked like mini flying saucers, and I had to stop. In 2005 sparkleball.com was born to share free instructions for making them . Over time our instructions evolved with new techniques, thanks to kind readers who shared their expertise. And now there’s the Make-A-Sparkleball Kit which has everything you need in one bag. No one knows who invented sparkleballs, but this indigenous American folkcraft has spread around the world as you can see from photos on Instagram and Pinterest.
