How to Make a “Stained Glass” Sparkleball

adella3For a “stained glass” sparkleball, you’ll need materials for the Original Sparkleball plus some permanent color markers. (I like Sharpies.)  Next,  find an artist.  Mine was 11 year old Adella, who was willing to color 50 plastic cups with the markers and with a little help from cousin Anna, brother and sister Russell and Gigi.  The results are stunning.  Alone, each cup is a little work of art.  A starry night, ocean wave, flowers, funny faces.  Put together, the cups become like stained glass with colors as vivid in sunlight as they are lit up at night. It’s a stunning sparkleball and memorable keepsake.

Big thank you to Adella and crew :)

Rob Sparkleball Jones

Last month at New York Maker’s Faire, Rob Stephens displayed his popular programmable RGB/LED sparkleballs,  pixelballs.  But the surprise hit was his sparkleball hat.  So many people asked to try it on, that Rob had to take photos. Mark Mathias was there and with Rob’s help, carried the idea to his church’s youth group, who made pixel and battery-pack sparkleball hats for Halloween.

Check out Rob’s website and his photo collection of “Sparkle Heads.”  Rob’s also working on easy instructions for programmable LED sparkleballs.

Sparkleballs in Hanoi

GlamourThe staff of Glamour Coffee Shop made the sparkle balls that decorate their streetside cafe, which is quite a scene.  They say the sparkle balls aren’t just pretty, they also attract customers. You can see that’s true by the number of Glamour sparkleball photos on social media.

Sparkleballs At the Office

Sharon's Office
Sharon’s Office Sparkleball

Patios, camper vans, living rooms. . . now The Office.  In India, Shreeyaholic and her work team won the waste management competition by making a sparkleball.   Yay Sparkleball Team!   In Sharon’s office 7000 miles away in northern California, her sparkleball stays lit when the energy-1024efficient ceiling light shuts off.  A cheery sight to return to, instead of a dark office.  And at Sparkleball Jones‘s workplace, several friends have his customized electronic sparkleballs which are all set to light up on Dr Pepper time!  They come on automatically at 10, 2, and 4 for some desktop dazzle.  That would make any work day move faster :)
