Hard Plastic Solo-Style Cup

The hard cup doesn’t have the lip like a soft cup, which makes it easy to connect with paper clips. There are several brands, and they’re all different weights and slightly different shapes. Some crack easier than others. If you don’t have a solo-style cup on hand as a measure, you’ll need to form your first ring of cups to see how many it takes. That first ring will determine the formula you’ll use to build your sparkleball. Some cups may work with the classic 12 – 9 – 4 formula. Others work with the 14 – 11 – 6 – 1 formula. Carl uses the 14 – 11 – 6 – 1 + an extra middle ring of 14 for Chinet. So don’t be afraid to figure out what works for you. That’s why the paperclips come in handy.
